William & Keats Publishing
Who we are and the publishing process

Most traditional and independent publishing companies who promise to send your books to distributors, will send you a minimum of 10 copies of your book, hold the rest and require you to purchase all additional copies at a 30-40% discount. Such publishing companies and distributors, if they sell your books, keep a large percentage of the sales, sometimes up to 90%. The result is that you are not in control of how many copies you give away or sell to others, and you are not rewarded with full royalties when you sell your books at conventions and conferences. We believe any author should have as many copies as they want of their own book, earn 100% of the royalties from the books they've purchased, and decide where their book goes. We know- we too are authors.

We believe in keeping it simple: After naming an estimated price for the project, and working together to create your masterpiece, you decide how many copies of your book you want in your hand, and you decide how much to charge your customers. If each copy of your book costs $3 per copy, and you sell your book for $15, then you’ve made $12. We’re proud of you. We can always print more copies when needed, and you get to keep all the rights to your work. Therefore, if an agent from a mega-publisher contacts you, you have the freedom to republish your work under their company title without violating our contract.

In mega-publishing companies, if they decide to stop printing your book, you must purchase back the rights of your own work in order to sell it to another company. However, with W&K, you own the rights to your work and it never goes out of print. In addition, along with our counsel, you are always in control of your book’s design, publicity, production, you decide it’s price, where it goes, who reads it, and you earn 100% royalties on all books you have purchased.

What we offer
- At your request, we will sell your books on Barnes and Noble Online bookstore, Books-A-Million, Ingram and Baker, Taylor book distributors, Amazon, Abebooks and Half.com. We even offer ebook services so your book will appear in Kindle, Nook, ibookstore, Reader Store, Kobo, and Diesel.
- Free marketing of your book and a personal essay on our website. We can provide a link to your personal web page or a link to a book order form with your mailing address so that people can order the books directly from you. (Sorry, we will not provide or build a web-page for you, but we would be glad to recommend a web host.)
- Round-the-clock availability.
- Counseling with our editors, our graphic designers and a personal representative to assist you through your publication process. We keep your manuscript on file so we can re-print it for you upon your request at any time– even years after it’s first printing (print-on-demand).
- We print black and white or full-color books and both paperback and hardback books with dust jackets.
- We provide ISBN numbers and EAN barcodes at your request along with registration at The Library of Congress, Books in Print database, and US Copyright so no one can steal your work. (US Copyright office registration provides full protection for your lifetime plus 50 years. Notice of your copyright is sent to you some six months to a year following the completion of your publication process. The Library of Congress is used by the central library to keep record of their permanent collection. A card catalog number will be assigned to your work.)
- We can provide you with a file at your request that contains your completed manuscript in both Microsoft Word and PDF Adobe Acrobat format. Along with these files includes a high resolution Adobe Acrobat PDF copy of your book cover. This way, as years pass, you will always have both an original hard copy and a reusable file copy for revisions.
- We are partners with a DVD and audio production company, a full-color and black-and-white printing company, and a world media ministry.
- We publish and ship internationally.

Our editors and graphic designers
- Can provide suggestions in your manuscript without altering words or the flow of the original text.
- Ensure that media titles are italicized and that you have properly cited references in your footnotes (we use Chicago style unless author prefers otherwise).
- Check that you consistently and correctly spell the names of characters and titles within your manuscript.
- Pour over spelling, punctuation and grammar.
- Suggest changes in word usage and sentence structure (syntax) to carry more poignancy and offer suggestions to improve writer’s message without infringing on the writer’s style.
- Exchange the manuscript with you until you’re satisfied with your work.
- Provide counsel and support while giving you complete control over how the text is edited, formatted and how the cover is designed.

Marketing
- We provide Internet marketing.
- We host booths at national and world convention centers where we advertise the books we publish.

Note: Most of your sales will be due to your own personal marketing through traveling and public addresses, sending out personal newsletters, contacting local newspapers and magazines, asking permission from local bookstores to stock your book, creating a webpage, connecting with organizations and groups interested in your subject and asking permission to visit or conduct a seminar. Ask yourself, “Who will be interested in my work and why?” We have authors who do very well with their sales because they follow the above criteria. Other authors sell only a handful of books to friends and family because that’s all they ever wanted to sell.

The publishing process
1)
After you have reviewed your literature and we agree to publish your work, we will begin the process of issuing an ISBN and EAN barcode, having your work copyrighted and registrated in the Library of Congress. We will give you an estimated price for publishing your book.

2) You will then submit a finished draft (hard copy) of your book to us through mail in Microsoft Word, New Times Roman, 12 font. All art, pictures and colors will be transmitted online through separate jpeg files.

3) As the relationship progresses, you will submit the following:
-   An Author’s Bio blog to be placed on the back of your book. This blog is short, one paragraph.
-   A Book Summary to be placed above the Author’s Bio, informing readers of its content.
-   A head-shot (if you desire) to better familiarize your audience with you.
Note: All graphics that belong within the text are not to be included in the text, but in a different file (jpeg) with an explanation as to where each of the graphics are to be placed. This ensures that when we convert your Microsoft Word file into our program, your graphics will not be lost or misplaced.

4) When the book has completed the final editing process and is ready for the printer, a graphic designer will contact you and discuss your book cover ideas.

5) After a book cover has been designed, we will then send you a full copy of your book (a proof) for your approval. (Making editorial or content changes to the manuscript or book’s cover once it has been sent to the printer is tedious and very expensive. We strongly advise you to have your book in it’s final form before allowing us to send it to our printers.)

6) Once the product is final, it usually takes approximately two weeks for paperback and four weeks for hardback to be printed and shipped.

7) After the book is printed and packaged, we send you the books and offer a page on our site to promote your book.
